November Nasturtiums

WHAT A TREAT!

Nasturtiums in November!

Usually by now, my outside plants have been nipped down by frost or eaten by the deer but I had a surprise visitor this week from one in a hanging basket!

The red variety shown here is a wonderful burst of peppery garlic flavor from the leaves and the flowers make a gourmet style garnish. I especially enjoy adding them to a salad. Nasturtiums are a wonderful pepper substitute in cooking.

This is an unusual and beautiful plant that any kitchen gardener should include in their plots, pots or window sills. It repels squash bugs and can be planted near radishes, squash, and tomatoes. It is easy to grow and lasts all summer until frost.

It's a beautiful addition in the garden and a tasty part of cooking!
